    How to Access/Use 44Net.cloud

    Why Raspberry Pi/Linux

    • I find that services can be run easily, such as a web server (which is what is serving these pages)
    • Easy to be command line driven

SSH keys and passwordless remote logins.

Because this is on the internet directly, you should disable password remote logins and use SSH keys.

    • ssh-keygen -C “Label”
    • Using the .pub key as part of the Raspberry Pi Setup

    Setting Up 44Cloud

    • Create an account https://dashboard.44net.cloud
    • Choose to create a tunnel. At this point, start the Wireguard configuration below, you’ll get some of the required details from the script.

    Network concerns and caveats

    • There is no firewall between you and the internet once the tunnel is established.
    • Don’t bridge between your home network, use a separate network or VLAN.
    • The script above hardens your Pi.
  • Setting up 44Net

    Setting up 44Net

    44Net is shorthand for Internet network 44 (44.0.0.0/9 & 44.128.0.0/10), also known as AMPRNet. (Home – 44Net)

Old Hams in the 80s saw the potential for experimenting with the internet and got a class A netblock of 16+ million IP addresses solely for Amateur radio use. A few of the blocks have been sold off over the years to help fund the ARDC (Class A Blocks == $$), but there remains 12+ million I believe.

Registration and Verification happens here – https://portal.ampr.org/ You need to verify that you’re an amateur (picture of your certificate) along with the usual email verifications.

Once you’re verified, then you can request some address space. I didn’t have a specific purpose in mind, so I chose General Address Assignment and chose a small /29 netmask (5 addresses I think).

With address space assigned, I then created an account at https://dashboard.44net.cloud which is used to connect the two pieces together…I think, though I’m wondering if I needed address assignment and whether I could have just used the 44net.cloud?

    More to come…

  • Hello world!

    Hello world!

Welcome to my own self-hosted Word Press site. I’m learning as I’m going, taking notes and hope to be posting my learnings here.

In the meantime, here’s a bit of information about how I’ve gotten this IP space on the internet for FREE! 44 Net Wiki You just need an amateur radio license.
